Be speckled, be stupid

Mary Ambrose, guest host of CBC Radio One’s As it Happens

Ms Ambrose was hosting a rather interesting segment on the problem India has, naming everything from dog kennels to mountain ranges. Apparently, there’s an overwhelming temptation to name everything after someone in the Gandhi/Nehru family, so the government has suggested sentimental Indians cease and desist. Too bad Ambrose slipped on the be-speckled banana peel of a bad adjective. Referring to the Mahatma, she meant of course to say “bespectacled”.

As a bonus Stupidism, on the same show she referred to someone “flaunting” (i.e. flouting) the rules – a boo-boo that’s just about daily fare these days. As it Happens … stupidistic radio …
