“Winds peeled the roof off from a house.” -

Vik Adhopia, CBC Radio’s World Report

The 15-year CBC veteran had a little trouble reporting the effects of Hurricane Igor on Newfoundland. It couldn’t be the fact that he was a Poli Sci major, because he followed that with a B.A. in Journalism. So there. Anyway, I can’t help being reminded of the old joke:

Gaston – How do you get down off an elephant?

Alphonse – You don’t get down off an elephant, you get down off a duck!

Of course the premise of the joke is that you actually know what the proper usage is. Wonder if Mr. Ahopia would get it?
