Homophone trouble

It’s with some sadness that we continue our education-related Stupidism theme for the third straight week. In this case it’s not the institution but the likely-educated reporter (and editor) that’s fallen down. Now that parliament is prorogued, maybe everyone will have more time to be punctilious and check these things.

This one reminded Mr.K of an equally disappointing encounter he had with a young acquaintance a few years ago. The conversation went something like this:

Miss X - “How far to the end of the (paddling) run?”

Mr.K - “About a mile.”

Miss X - “How far is a mile?”

Mr.K - “Come on X, you’re a teacher.”

Miss X - “Not a math teacher.”
